If you’ve followed INSTINCT® for a while, you’ll know our collections are built on collaboration, storytelling, and elevating creative voices that deserve the spotlight. One of those voices is Beth Munro — a Plymouth-based printmaker whose work is deeply rooted in the environment around her.
We met Beth through our events with Real Ideas and quickly connected over a shared appreciation for process and authenticity. Her work has a quiet intensity to it — intricate, detailed, and deeply intentional. It was her etching, created from a month’s worth of beachcombing, that caught our eye and stayed with us.
“Daily walks on my local beach with Ottie the dog inspired me to pick up plastic waste whilst walking... The Victorians celebrated the beauty of nature, especially as scientific discoveries enabled us to see nature in more detail. Natural forms were displayed in glass bell jars, revered and admired. I’m using the motif of the bell jar to suggest that our focus has changed.” — Beth Munro
This etching, titled Small Finds, was transformed into a wearable artwork — a screen-printed design on a deep red T-shirt. With a stark white print that highlights Beth’s fine linework and sense of composition, the piece balances rawness with care. When you look closely, the image reveals the beauty in overlooked fragments — from rubber weights to fishing knots — all collected from the shoreline.
This isn't just a T-shirt; it's a quiet protest, a study of form, and a reminder to slow down and notice the world around us. Beth’s work has become a prominent part of the South West's creative landscape, and we’re proud to have interpreted one of her etchings into something tactile, wearable, and visible in a new light.
